New Counsel at Homburger: Prof. Dr. Dieter Zobl

The partners of Homburger are pleased to announce that Prof. Dr. Dieter Zobl has joined the firm as a Counsel as of March 1, 2010.Dieter Zobl studied at the Law School of the University of Zurich where he was awarded a summa cum laude doctorate in the fields of corporate and property law in 1973. In 1970, he was granted a license as a notary public in Zurich and was admitted to the bar of the canton of Zurich in 1974.Dieter Zobl habilitated in 1982 and was appointed as a full professor for private, commercial and banking law at the University of Zurich as of the summer semester of 1988. He was named emeritus on January 31, 2010. From 2002 to 2004, he was the Dean of the Law School of the University of Zurich. Dieter Zobl is Head of the Board of Editors of the Commentary on Swiss Banking Law, of a series of publications in the field of financial market law (Schweizerische Schriften zum Finanzmarktrecht) and is the co-editor of a commercial law review (Schweizerische Zeitschrift für Wirtschaftsrecht).After graduating from law school, Dieter Zobl worked in a renowned law firm in Zurich from 1973 to 1976. From 1976 to 1988, he was the General Counsel of the Zurich State Bank (Zürcher Kantonalbank). For several years he was a member of the Zurich Commercial Court and then of the cantonal Supreme Court as well as of the Commission of Bar Examiners. While he was working for a bank, he was a member of the lawyers committee of the Swiss Bankers Association. As of 2008, he has been member of the CDB Supervisory Board of the Swiss Bankers Association. From 1993 to 2001, Dieter Zobl was member of the Executive Committee of the Zurich Association of Lawyers that he chaired from 1997 to 1999.Prof. Dr. Dieter Zobl’s practice as a scholar, counsel and author of several publications focuses mainly on capital market, banking, secured lending and property law. He will especially act as Counsel in our financial services team, but will also intervene in other practice teams.
