New Tax Counsel at Homburger: Prof. Dr. René Matteotti

Prof. Dr. René Matteotti studied law in St.Gallen and Bern, concluding his studies in 1997. Following work as a law clerk, in 1999, he passed the bar examination of the canton of Zurich and went on to work as an attorney (amongst others with Homburger) in the field of tax law for several years. In 2003, he was awarded a PhD in Bern for his prize-winning thesis «Der Durchgriff bei Auslandgesellschaften im Gewinnsteuerrecht» („Piercing the corporate veil in profit tax law”). A year later, he acquired a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in taxation from the Northwestern University School of Law (Chicago). He qualified as a university lecturer at the University of Bern in 2005/06, with a comparative law study between the USA and Switzerland on the interpretation of tax law. Since December 2007, René Matteotti has served as a full tenure professor for Swiss, European and international tax law and as the Director of the Institute for Tax Law at the University of Bern. Amongst others, he is a member of the Attorneys Examining Board of the Canton of Bern as well as a member of the Value Added Tax Advisory Committee of the Swiss Confederation.Prof. Dr. René Matteotti focuses on national and international tax law issues. He will assist our firm’s tax law group on particularly complex tax law issues and projects, contributing, in particular, his scientific knowledge and experience.
