Homburger advised the Republic of South Sudan in Telecommunication Licensing Dispute

On May 20, 2025, an arbitral tribunal seated in Geneva dismissed nearly the entirety of a multi-billion-dollar claim filed by a Lebanese-owned mobile telecommunications operator against the Republic of South Sudan. The claim concerned telecommunications licenses issued prior to South Sudan’s independence in 2005.

Homburger provided legal counsel to the Republic of South Sudan on Swiss law matters and represented the country before the Swiss Federal Supreme Court in proceedings challenging the arbitral tribunal’s jurisdictional award.

The Homburger team was led by Balz Gross and included Okan Uzun, Angela Casey and Giovanni Dazio (all Arbitration, Litigation).
