Set against the backdrop of a 150-year history of economic ties between Japan and Switzerland, the Japan focus group advises Japanese clients with respect to all legal and tax issues relating to their investments in Switzerland, and assists Swiss clients in their activities with Japanese business partners.
The free trade agreement concluded in 2009 is not the only evidence of the importance of the economic relationship between Japan and Switzerland.
The first agreement of this kind between the two countries entered into force as early as 1864. Today, Japanese exports to Switzerland amount to JPY 400 billion (CHF 3.5 billion), with imports from Switzerland having reached JPY 650 billion (CHF 5.7 billion).
For several years now, our Japan focus group, consisting of partners from our various practice teams, has been assisting Japanese clients in a wide range of cases, transactional matters and disputes.
Members of the focus group regularly visit Japan and are very familiar with the cultural differences and etiquette. Thanks to its specialists’ close contact with the leading law firms in Tokyo and Osaka, broad knowledge and proven experience, Homburger is well placed to assist Swiss enterprises in bridging intercultural gaps and in helping them to find suitable advisors in Japan for their projects there.
