The award reflects Homburger's involvement in some of the most demanding international finance and M&A deals of 2012, e.g. as counsel to UBS in connection with its offerings of subordinated loss-absorbing notes, as counsel to the underwriters in the IPO of EFG Financial Products Holding or as counsel to Tyco International in the combination of its Flow Control business with Pentair. Homburger received the award for the seventh consecutive year and all in all for the ninth time.

Vor dem Hintergrund der AIFM-Richtlinie der EU wurden das Kollektivanlagengesetz sowie die Verordnung über die Kollektivanlagen revidiert. Ziel dieser Tagung ist es, die Auswirkungen dieser und anderer Regularien auf Private Equity-Fonds und -Fondsstukturen sowie auf Private Equity-Fondsmanager und -advisor im nationalen und internationalen Kontext zu beleuchten. The partners of Homburger have appointed Lee Saladino as counsel effective January 1, 2013. Lee Saladino is a member of Homburger's Financial Services practice team and specializes in capital markets transactions, with a focus on advising Swiss and foreign clients in connection with cross-border securities offerings and share listings on the Swiss exchange.

Lee Saladino obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University in 1997 and a law degree (Juris Doctor) from the University of Chicago Law School in 2004. After her studies, she worked as an associate at Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York from 2004 to 2008 and joined Homburger as an associate in 2008. She was admitted to the bar of New York in 2005.

Lee Saladino's practice draws extensively on her U.S. legal background, which primarily involved representing initial purchasers and managing underwriters in connection with Rule 144A and Regulation S high-yield bond offerings, as well as lead arrangers and administrative agents in connection with the arrangement and syndication of senior secured credit facilities (with an emphasis on acquisition financing for private equity sponsors).

Recent transactions in which Lee Saladino has been involved include advising UBS in connection with its offerings of subordinated loss-absorbing notes in February 2012 and August 2012, and Credit Suisse in connection with its offering of mandatory and contingent convertible securities in July 2012.

The partners of Homburger have appointed Melissa Magliana and Roger Zuber as counsel effective January 1, 2012. Both new counsel are members of Homburger's Litigation | Arbitration practice team. While Melissa Magliana primarily acts as party counsel in international arbitration and cross-border cases involving the U.S., Roger Zuber specializes in state court litigation and employment law matters.

Melissa Magliana obtained a Bachelor of Arts in politics from Princeton University in 1999 and a law degree (Juris Doctor) from the Columbia University School of Law in 2004. After her studies, she clerked for The Hon. Carol Bagley Amon at the District Court for the Eastern District of New York. She was admitted to the bar of New York in 2005.

Melissa Magliana's practice focuses above all on international arbitration proceedings and cross-border disputes involving the United States. She has acted as party counsel under various rules of arbitration (e.g. ICC, Swiss, NIA) and has experience inter alia in the construction, transportation and pharmaceutical industries, as well as in shareholder and post-M&A disputes. Melissa Magliana is an active member of international arbitration associations and professional groups including the Swiss Arbitration Association (ASA), American Bar Association, and the International Association of Young Lawyers (AIJA).

Roger Zuber graduated from the Universities of Berne (lic. iur. 1998 | Dr. iur. 2004) and Oxford (MJur 2005). After he was admitted to the bar in 2000, he worked as an associate at a law firm in Berne. He joined Homburger in 2005.

Roger Zuber's practice focuses on domestic and international litigation and arbitration. Furthermore, he has extensive experience in rendering advice on employment law and he frequently represents clients in related court proceedings. Roger Zuber publishes regularly in the fields of employment and civil procedural law.

At the IFLR's European Awards ceremony, held on March 22, 2012, in London, Homburger has repeated last years' success by being awarded again "Swiss Law Firm of the Year". Taking home the national award for the sixth consecutive year and all in all for the eighth time, reflects Homburger's leading role in some of the most demanding international finance deals of 2011.

Homburger also won the Debt and Equity-linked Deal of the Year Award 2012 for advising Credit Suisse on the first issue of fully Basel III compliant Contigent Convertible Bonds (CoCos). The team was led by partner René Bösch (Financial Services) and comprised partners Daniel Haeberli (Financial Services), Markus Weidmann (Tax), Dieter Gericke (Corporate | M&A) and of counsel Dieter Zobl (Financial Services).

On February 22, 2012, the winners of the International Law Office (ILO) Client Choice Awards 2012 were announced. Homburger has been awarded "ILO Client Choice Firm Winner Switzerland 2012". Homburger has taken home the firm award for the fourth time after 2005, 2007 and 2008.

Furthermore, as last year two Homburger partners are individual winners: Daniel Daeniker (partner, Corporate | M&A) has won the "ILO Client Choice M&A Award Switzerland" (ILO profile Daniel Daeniker). Dieter Gericke (partner, Corporate | M&A) has succeeded in the category "General Corporate Switzerland"(ILO profile Dieter Gericke).

The ILO Client Choice Awards honour those law firms and individual lawyers around the world that stand apart for the excellent client care they provide. The research process focused on the ability of partners and firms to add real value to their clients' businesses and relied on a range of criteria such as quality of legal advice, value for money, commercial awareness, effective communication and response time.

Law firms and lawyers can only be nominated for these awards by senior corporate counsel. The winners for 2012 were chosen from a pool of more than 2,000 individual assessments received worldwide.

The partners of Homburger are pleased to announce that Stefan Oesterhelt became a partner of the firm on January 1, 2012.

Stefan Oesterhelt studied law at the University of Basel and graduated in 1999. In 2001 he was admitted to the bar and qualified as a certified tax expert in 2004. The following year, he graduated with a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the University of Cambridge.

Stefan Oesterhelt works as a tax advisor with a focus on international tax law. His areas of specialization include tax planning and structuring of finance transactions, capital market transactions and acquisitions as well as tax litigation.

Stefan Oesterhelt has published various articles on topics related to his practice areas and is a regular speaker on tax law at seminars. He is also a member of the board of examiners for certified tax experts and a lecturer in tax law at several universities.

The fourth Chambers Europe Awards were held on May 5, 2011 in Amsterdam. They honoured outstanding law firms on the basis of research carried out for Chambers Europe 2011, which refers to both client feedback and firms’ transactions and cases during the past year. The awards reflect a law firm's pre-eminence in key practice areas and notable achievements over the past 12 months including outstanding work, impressive strategic growth and excellence in client service.

Homburger could take home a Chambers Award for Excellence for the third time after 2008 and 2009.
