Traineeship

Every year Homburger offers a 12-month traineeship to 12 to 15 skilled and dedicated university graduates.

The traineeship is conceived as preparation for the bar exam and allows lawyer-trainees to gain their first professional experience in an international corporate law firm.

We are committed to training and preparing you for your bar exam.

REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS

Traineeships at Homburger are offered to university graduates who earned their degree with above-average grades. We are looking for team players who are hard working and ready and able to take initiative. A traineeship at Homburger is for those who are curious and are interested in gaining new practical experience and who see complex legal issues as a challenge and not as a problem. Part of our philosophy is that trainees should rapidly take on responsibility during their traineeship. Very good English skills are an advantage but not mandatory.

EXPERIENCE IN TWO DIFFERENT PRACTICE TEAMS

At Homburger you will not be working for a specific partner but within a practice team, with the opportunity to experience two practice teams during your twelve months here. Your preferences will be taken into account when determining which practice teams you will work in. Every practice team has several partners and associates.

The practice teams are responsible for developing and maintaining a high level of professional know-how in their respective areas of commercial law and for sharing their knowledge with clients as well as with other practice teams. At Homburger, you will work above all with the members of your practice team, but have the opportunity to work with and support other practice teams on mandates requiring legal advice in your field.

Homburger has practice teams and practice groups. Our wide array of specializations allows us to efficiently and rapidly provide high-level legal advice to our clients.

Our practice teams include the following areas:

  • Competition | Regulatory
  • Corporate | M&A
  • Financial Services
  • Litigation and Arbitration
  • IP | IT
  • Tax

In addition, Homburger also has the following practice groups:

  • Employment Law
  • Insolvency
  • Insurance
  • Private Clients
  • Real Estate
  • White Collar Crime | Investigations

Practice teams meet on a weekly – and practice groups on a monthly – basis in order to stay up to date with the latest legal developments, case law and doctrine in their field of specialty and to further develop their know-how. In addition, firm-wide educational training in specific areas of the law is organized on a regular basis.

PREPARATION FOR THE BAR EXAMINATION

A partner of your practice team will be your mentor during your traineeship. In addition, you will be supported in general and personal matters throughout your internship by two coaches - a partner and a senior associate.

In addition to the weekly practice team sessions and the other internal training sessions, the trainees take part in a program designed specifically to prepare them for the bar examination. Trainees meet monthly over lunch and twice a year for a two-day seminar. The seminar is dedicated to the discussion of previous bar examination questions that are solved in advance, in writing, by small groups of trainees. Team spirit plays an important role in this context. Part of the preparation of our trainees for the bar examination consists in their taking an active role in the training sessions and seminars.

Former trainees are welcome to continue to participate in the various educational seminars and practice group meetings during their preparation for the bar examination, which most do.

Application Process

After receiving your application, we will schedule an interview, at which three partners will be present. During this meeting you will be able to ask questions about Homburger and the traineeship. After your interview, a trainee will show you around our offices and answer any further questions you may have.

We welcome applications from candidates attracted by our dynamic working environment. Your application should contain your curriculum vitae, your university grades, working certificates you may have, and a list of references. Please send your application to:
